The secret
of our watermelon
At Navarro de Haro we are highly professionalized in the production of watermelon, especially the Fashion variety.
That is why we take care of even the smallest detail throughout the planting and harvesting process starting with the grafting of our watermelons. Watermelon seeds are grafted one by one and only those that meet the established quality criteria are selected.
We select each type of seed according to the production area for which it is intended.
Planting begins when the soil is at its optimum moment and with all the necessary nutritional values.
Our watermelon campaign starts in the area close to sea level. We seek the maximum warmth possible and start in farms protected by plastic or mesh.
As temperatures increase, we raise the altitude of production towards cooler areas. At this point, in the central hours of the day, temperatures are very high and lower at night. This change of environment to about 10° leads to the optimal growth of the plant.
Throughout the production process, we work with nutrient sensors to permanently know each plant’s requirements. Through our drip irrigation, each plant receives the exact amount of water it needs at each moment of the growth process.
Our staff checks on the crops several times a day to control fertilizer, irrigation and any other possible needs. The watermelons are harvested at the right time, taking care to protect them from any damage during packaging and transport.
